Board of the Project

The Joint Board provides strategic oversight to the Project and consists of four members. Two members are appointed by the Governor of the Bank, two by the Director of the ESRI.

 

Gerard O'Reilly

 

 

Gabriel Fagan was appointed Chief Economist in October 2014.  He previously worked in the European Central Bank, where he held a number of key roles, most recently as Senior Advisor in the Directorate-General Research since 2011. He also previously headed up the Monetary Policy Research and Econometric Modelling Divisions. Prior to joining the ECB, he was Head of the Monetary Strategy Section at the European Monetary Institute and an economist at the Committee of Governors in Basel. Between 1985 and 1992, he was an economist at the Central Bank of Ireland, responsible for monitoring and forecasting the Irish economy. He has  also been an economics lecturer in Frankfurt University and Trinity College Dublin.

Gabriel holds a PhD in economics from Trinity College Dublin and an MA in ecnonomics from University College Dublin.

 

 
Kieran McQuinn

Kieran McQuinn is Associate Research Professor who works on the quarterly economic commentary (QEC) and housing related projects. His research interests include house prices, economic growth, household finance, financial sector efficiency, macroeconometric modelling, economic forecasting and macro-prudential policy. He spent over 11 years working in the Irish Central Bank where he had management positions in the research and financial stability areas. He started his career in University College Cork and then joined Teagasc, the Irish agriculture and food development authority, where he worked for over 5 years as a research economist. Dr. McQuinn completed a PhD in economics from NUI Maynooth during his time in Teagasc.

He has published in a broad number of international and domestic journals. These include The International Journal of Central Banking, The Journal of Economic Growth, The Journal of Money Credit and Banking and The Journal of Housing Economics. Dr. McQuinn is adjunct professor of economics at University College Cork. He is currently an associate editor of the Economic and Social Review and is a current council member of both the Economic and Social Studies and the Irish Economics Association.

 

 
Alan Barrett

Professor Alan Barrett is Head of the Economic Analysis Division at the ESRI. He is also a Research Professor at Trinity College Dublin where he leads the programme of research on economics with the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA). He is a member of the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council.

 

Alan joined the ESRI in 1994, upon the completion of his doctoral studies at Michigan State University. His main research areas are labour economics and population economics.

He has published in these areas in journals such as Labour Economics, Journal of Population Economics, Oxford Review of Economic Policy, Economics Letters, Industrial and Labor Relations Review, British Journal of Industrial Relations, European Journal of Population, International Migration Review, Population Research and Policy Review, Economic and Social Review and National Institute Economic Review.
